Apple and Lime Green Smoothie

For when you want to go on a detox and cleansing phase, this tasty and nutrient-packed Apple and Lime Green Smoothie is a must-make!

This week I have started a Detox Diet using Dr. Oz’ 3 Day Detox Cleanse. It’s all liquid for three days and am now surviving 🙂 my second day. Amazingly, I didn’t feel as hungry as I thought I would be though caffeine withdrawal did give me some headache. And I must say it’s quite a challenge not to want to chew on food especially when I see a lot of yummy food everywhere! 🙂 But what I find fascinating are the Green Smoothies I had to take/drink for the detox – I honestly thought they’d be gross-tasting and just awful but I was surprised that they were actually pretty good – sweet but not too much. The addition of fruits and nuts masked whatever bitter flavors the greens have so it’s actually quite acceptable.

Of course, it takes will power to do this and am glad I will be done by Thursday – sort of extended it for another day – and then I can go back to a more regular diet. Just wanted to get rid of nasty stuff in my system to get ready for summer!!! Besides, honestly, this is the best way to get all your green and fruit servings on a daily basis — I think I will drink this Green Smoothie on a regular basis from now on.

Here’s the lunch Smoothie from the 3 Day Detox Cleanse that I have been having. There is no name for it so I took the liberty of calling it Apple and Lime Green Smoothie! 🙂 This is a little thicker than usual – I added more Kale than required but I still enjoyed it. See that’s why I had to use a spoon as you can see in the photo. It almost fills up a regular blender so it may take longer than usual to process it and you will get (depending on the glass you use) – about 3 servings so it was good for the next day for me but you can always drink some more of it in case you get hungry.

The recipe list from Dr. Oz does not mention this but a friend of mine gave me a tip with regard to handling Kale – make sure to remove the membrane or fiber in the middle – so it won’t be too fibrous or chewy when you drink the smoothie. I think that helped made the smoothie better. So, if you just wish to be able to drink your fruits and veggies – why not try this satisfying and quite sweet Apple and Lime Green Smoothie! Enjoy!

I don't know if there's an exact Tagalog equivalent of Kale but if you google it it will show an image of what it is like. Perhaps they already grow this in Baguio but am not sure where to get this 'cause am not in Manila. Beets are available in Manila and you can find them in SM. They are red in color and look like small singkamas.
