How do you make Keema Beef Curry?

Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Add the chopped onion and garlic and cook until the onions have softened. Adjust the heat to low and add all the spices including the fresh ginger (if using). Cook for 1-2 minutes or until aromatic.

Stir in the ground beef. Crumble with the fork to separate and cook until it changes its color.

Add the tomatoes, beef stock, or water, and then season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and then simmer on low covered for about 15-20 minutes.

Add the peas and cook until the peas are done. Adjust the seasoning if needed. So I know that this is not part of the original Keema curry recipe but when I feel I need to balance out the flavors of a dish, I sprinkle a little bit of brown sugar to do so. It will not sweeten the dish (that’s not the aim) but will help enhance the flavor. This is totally optional after all, you may already love the dish as is! 🙂

Garnish with some chopped Cilantro/Coriander. Enjoy with some yummy Turmeric Rice! What a perfect combo!

This is exactly what I grew up with. It’s an East African Dish and Keema is ground meat. I couldn’t get a hold of my mom so I decided to search Pinterest for a recipe because I can’t always remember all the spices my mom uses. I found this one. I made it and it tastes just like my moms cooking. I loved it. Thank you!!

I made this tonight, followed the recipe exactly and it came out great! Definitely a keeper. I was initially concerned about the quantity of spices but went for it and want to say “don’t be intimidated!” It makes a wonderful tasting dish and it’s quite easy to make.
