These easy cheesy sausage balls are delicious and more-ish! Perfect as party appetizers, snacks for Game Day or to enjoy for breakfast! These sausage balls can be made ahead, even frozen before or after baking. Can also be made completely gluten-free.
During one of our ladies’ bible study, a lady from our church brought these delicious sausage balls for our brunch. We do our study on Saturday mornings and usually, a lady or 2 are assigned to bring some food.
We all loved these sausage balls of deliciousness! We all complimented her on her yummy sausage balls and quite a few of us asked for the recipe.
I was surprised when she mentioned they were only made of 3 ingredients (the original recipe, at least). They were: bulk sausage, cheese, and baking mix. However, she modified them a bit by adding some herbs and a little bit of spicy kick!
As you can imagine, when I got home I immediately searched for these sausage balls online. I actually found the original Betty Crocker 3-ingredient sausage balls. Being me, I wanted to go beyond just the three basic ingredients and add my own spin.
Not only that, I wanted to make a completely gluten-free version for my dear husband who can only eat gluten-free food, Thankfully, I discovered that Betty Crocker actually has a gluten-free version of its original baking mix.
I bought the gluten-free baking mix, made my own combination of herbs to add to the original recipe, and voila – the result is the most sumptuous easy, and cheesy sausage balls!
My family ate these all up and said it’s a keeper! I brought these sausage balls to one of our church Christmas parties and I came home nearly empty-handed! Even though one batch of this recipe makes about 60 sausage balls, only about 6 were left at the end of the night. It was the best appetizer indeed!
CAN THESE EASY CHEESY BALLS BE MADE AHEAD?
Yes. I sometimes mix the ingredients for the sausage balls a day ahead and cook them the next day.
CAN THESE EASY CHEESY BALLS BE FROZEN?
Yes, these sausage balls can be frozen before or after baking. If freezing before baking, simply mix the ingredients first then form them into balls. To freeze line them up in one layer rather than lumping them all together so they’re easier to separate. Can be baked from frozen. Simply adjust the baking time.
