Loaded with ham, red and green peppers, bread, onion, and cheese, this super tasty and colorful ham strata is pleasing both to the eye and palate! It's make-ahead, too so simply pop it in the oven for a delicious hot breakfast!
¾cupeach green and red sweet pepper,julienned or cubed
16ozsourdough loaf (or French bread),cut into cubes
2cupscooked ham,cubed
1cupcheddar cheese (yellow or white)
6large eggs
2cupsmilk
¾tspsalt
½tspfreshly ground black pepper
Instructions
Heat oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Saute onions and peppers until tender about 5 minutes. Season lightly with just a pinch of salt.
Place half the bread cubes in a greased 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the following: sauteed onions and peppers, ham, and cheese. Repeat layers.
In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour over the bread mixture. Cover and refrigerat overnight.
Remove the dish from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350°. Bake, uncovered, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean, 30-35 minutes. Let sit for 10 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
