CAN I USE OTHER TYPES OF BEER FOR THIS CAKE?

While Guinness beer is traditionally used for this recipe, you can certainly experiment with other types of beer to create a unique flavor profile. Keep in mind that the flavor of the cake may vary depending on the type of beer you use, so it’s best to choose a beer with a flavor profile that complements chocolate.

For example, a chocolate stout or a porter would be a good choice as they have similar deep, malty flavors like Guinness. However, you can also try using a lighter beer like a lager or an ale for a different flavor. Just keep in mind that the resulting cake may have a milder beer flavor.

Overall, feel free to experiment with different types of beer and find a combination that works best for your taste.

CAN I TASTE THE BEER ON THE CAKE?

While Guinness Chocolate Cake does include beer in the ingredients, the flavor of the beer is not overpowering in the final product. Instead, the beer adds depth and complexity to the chocolate, resulting in a rich, moist cake with a subtle hint of beer flavor.

Some people may be able to taste the beer more strongly than others, depending on their taste preferences and sensitivity to beer flavors. However, most people find that the chocolate flavor is the dominant flavor in the cake, with the beer flavor serving as a subtle background note.

Overall, if you’re a fan of chocolate and beer, Guinness Chocolate Cake is definitely worth trying. The beer adds a unique twist to a classic chocolate cake, resulting in a delicious and indulgent dessert.

WHAT KIND OF COCOA POWDER SHOULD I USE FOR GUINNESS CHOCOLATE CAKE?

For the best results, it’s recommended to use unsweetened cocoa powder for this Guinness Chocolate Cake recipe. This type of cocoa powder is readily available in most grocery stores and is specifically formulated for baking.

Unsweetened cocoa powder is different from sweetened cocoa mixes like hot cocoa or chocolate milk mixes, which contain added sugar and other ingredients. Unsweetened cocoa powder has a rich, intense chocolate flavor that is perfect for baking.

When shopping for cocoa powder, look for brands that have a high percentage of cocoa solids. This means that cocoa powder has a higher concentration of chocolate flavor and fewer added ingredients. Natural or Dutch-processed cocoa powder will work for this recipe, but Dutch-processed cocoa powder will produce a darker, richer cake with a milder flavor and less acidity.

In summary, when making Guinness Chocolate Cake, make sure to use unsweetened cocoa powder for the best results.

HOW DO I STORE THIS CHOCOLATE GUINNESS CAKE?

To store Guinness Chocolate Cake, first, make sure that the cake is completely cool before attempting to store it. Then, wrap the cake tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil to help prevent air from reaching the cake, which can cause it to dry out.

You can store the cake at room temperature for up to 2-3 days, depending on the humidity and temperature of your kitchen. Alternatively, you can store the cake in the refrigerator for up to a week. Just make sure to bring it to room temperature before serving to allow the flavors to fully develop and the frosting to soften.

If you need to store the cake for a longer period of time, you can also freeze it for up to 2-3 months. To freeze, wrap the cake tightly in plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil or place it in an airtight container. When you’re ready to serve the cake, let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight before bringing it to room temperature and frosting.

Overall, storing Guinness Chocolate Cake properly will help maintain its texture and flavor, so it’s important to take the time to wrap it tightly and store it in a cool, dry place.

  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

HOW DO YOU MAKE DOUBLE CHOCOLATE GUINNESS CAKE?

FOR THE CAKE

Preheat oven to 350 F. Butter a 9-inch springform pan and line the bottom with parchment; set aside.

Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, instant espresso powder, and salt.

Get 2 tablespoons of the cocoa mixture and mix it with 1 cup of chocolate chips. Just coat the chips with the cocoa and flour mixture. Set aside.

Beat the eggs and sour cream. Add the sugar, Guinness beer, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well to combine.

Slowly add the flour mixture and mix well until fully incorporated.

Fold in the chocolate chips.

Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes or until a tester comes out clean. Oven temperatures vary so adjust the baking time accordingly. Place the cake pan on a wire rack. After 20 minutes remove the cake from the pan and allow it to cool completely before topping it with the cream cheese frosting.

FOR THE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

Using an electric mixer, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. On low speed, add the powdered sugar one cup at a time and continue until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Beat in the Vanilla extract. Spread evenly on top of the cooled cake.

TIPS & TRICKS

The coffee is added to enhance the flavor of the chocolate. You won’t taste the coffee. If you don’t like it, simply omit it.

This cake may also be baked in a 10-inch cake pan. The cake may need to bake longer in the cake pan so adjust accordingly. If you wish to shorten the baking time, I suggest splitting the batter into two and baking it in 8-inch baking pans.

This cake has butter so once chilled, the cake needs to come to room temperature before serving so it doesn’t get dense or firm when you cut it. If you can’t wait until the cake turns into a softer consistency after chilling, I suggest warming the cake for a few seconds in the microwave. Alternatively, serve it warm with ice cream – it’s so heavenly eaten this way, too. The cake itself can be stored at room temperature for 2 days. Just frost when you are ready to serve! Enjoy this absolutely delicious cake!
