Cranberry Cheese and Prosciutto Sandwich
This Cranberry Cheese and Prosciutto Sandwich combines sweet chèvre cheese, salty prosciutto, peppery arugula, and honey on toasted bread. Perfect as a quick holiday appetizer or elegant snack for Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Ready in minutes with simple ingredients!
Do you stick to one particular supermarket or grocery store when you go shopping for food on a weekly basis? Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don’t, depending on which one has a sale. I do have three favorite stores that I make my rounds at. We went to Trader Joe’s the other day (one of our fave stores) and discovered the inspiration for this delicious sandwich, cranberry-covered (smothered more than that) chèvre!
Why This Recipe Cranberry Cheese and Prosciutto Sandwich Works
• Cranberry cheese and prosciutto sandwiches combine sweet, savory, and tangy flavors into a quick appetizer suitable for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any holiday gathering.
• Cranberry-covered chèvre (goat cheese) serves as the primary spread, though plain goat cheese, mascarpone, or cream cheese paired with cranberry sauce or jam provides an effective substitute.
• The sandwich features cranberry pecan bread, cranberry chèvre, fresh arugula, prosciutto, and a honey drizzle, though any preferred sandwich bread works equally well.
• Toasting the buttered bread in a panini press or on a griddle enhances flavor and texture, creating a warm, crispy exterior that complements the creamy cheese and crisp prosciutto.
• The combination of fruity cranberries, tangy goat cheese, peppery arugula, salty prosciutto, and sweet honey delivers a balanced flavor profile in each bite.

WHAT INGREDIENTS TO USE FOR Cranberry Cheese and Prosciutto Sandwich?
- A loaf of Cranberry Pecan Bread (or your favorite sandwich bread)
- Cranberry chèvre (fresh Goat Cheese) or substitute with brie, cream cheese and mascarpone
- A bunch of fresh Arugula (baby rocket)
- Prosciutto
- Honey, to taste
- A little Butter for toasting the bread
I used a cranberry raisin and pecan bread for the sandwich, but you can use your favorite bread, too. I simply spread the colorful goat cheese (isn’t it lovely with the tint of cranberry against the white?) over a slice and stopped to admire how yummy it looked already…..lol. 🙂
If you can’t find the cranberry-flavored chèvre, no worries; use plain goat cheese (or substitute with brie, mascarpone, or cream cheese), then add homemade or store-bought cranberry sauce or jam, and spread both on the bread. That would work, too.
HOW TO MAKE Cranberry Cheese and Prosciutto Sandwich
- Spread cranberry chèvre or goat cheese on one side of a slice of bread. Top it with arugula, 2 slices of prosciutto, then drizzle with a little honey. Top with the remaining slice.
- This next step is optional, but it adds extra flavor, so I highly recommend it. Butter the exposed sides of the bread. If you have a panini press, heat it, then toast the prepared sandwich to your liking. If you don’t have one, simply use a flat griddle or frying pan to toast the bread. Flip and repeat on the other side. Serve warm.
The verdict! Both sandwiches were fully eaten (no leftovers, yay!) by my two kids. I thought they wouldn’t like the goat cheese, but surprisingly they both loved it, so I was obviously very happy!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I make this sandwich ahead of time for a party?
You can prep the sandwich components separately and assemble them closer to serving time. Spread the cheese on bread and store covered in the refrigerator, keep arugula washed and dried, and have prosciutto ready. Toast and assemble within an hour of serving to prevent the bread from becoming soggy.
What wine or beverage pairs well with cranberry prosciutto sandwiches?
A light-bodied Pinot Noir or sparkling Prosecco complements the sweet-and-salty flavors beautifully. For non-alcoholic options, sparkling apple cider or a cranberry spritzer with fresh herbs echoes the fruity notes in the sandwich.
Can I use turkey or ham instead of prosciutto?
Turkey or ham work as substitutes, though they provide a different flavor profile than prosciutto’s delicate saltiness and silky texture. Thinly sliced deli turkey or black forest ham are closest in texture, but the sandwich will taste less Italian and more traditionally American.
How do I prevent the arugula from wilting when toasting the sandwich?
Add the arugula after toasting, or toast it briefly over low heat. Alternatively, heartier greens like baby spinach withstand heat better than delicate arugula while still providing a peppery bite.
What other fruit-flavored cheeses work well in this sandwich?
Fig-studded goat cheese, apricot-infused brie, or blueberry-topped cream cheese offer similar sweet-savory contrasts. Each brings a unique fruit flavor that pairs naturally with prosciutto and peppery greens, making the sandwich adaptable throughout different seasons.
