Using the instant pot ensures that the meat in this restaurant classic dish – Beef and Broccoli comes out so meltingly-tender and very tasty, too! Easy to follow directions so you’re guaranteed to have the most delicious results every time!
This was our dinner tonight and everyone loved it! My hubby really enjoyed it and both my kids ate a lot of it, too that there’s hardly any left-overs left for tomorrow!
Oh well, that’s ok. I consider that a huge dinner success in my book! As you can see from the photos, it came out so delicious and that sauce – I drizzled it all over the rice.
It has the perfect balance of flavors – hints of saltiness, slight sweetness, sesame goodness and umami deliciousness all over!
Is this Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli recipe difficult to make?
Certainly not! The hardest, if you can even call it that – is the slicing of the meat! Apart from that it’s pretty straightforward to make!
In fact, follow the instructions as is and there’s no need to make extra preparations beforehand except for the meat-slicing part!
Which Cut of Beef to Use?
For this recipe, you can use chuck roast, flank steak, skirt steak or sirloin steak. They have enough fat in their layers to give them flavor and works so well with this sweet-salty complex-flavored sauce.
If you prefer a leaner cut of meat, I’ve also tried this with beef round steak or roast. Simply slice it thinly and against the grain.
If you feel your slices won’t be even or that the cut won’t be as clean as you want it to be, stick the meat in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes. Cold meat cuts better than meat at room temperature.
Can I use other types of meat?
Yes, you can make this pressure cooker beef and broccoli recipe with chicken. Simply adjust the cooking time because chicken cooks faster (see your instant pot instructional manual for guidance on cooking chicken chunks). I suggest using the darker meat like thighs so they absorb more flavor and won’t dry out.
Can I use frozen broccoli?
Yes, you can use frozen broccoli for this instant pot beef and broccoli recipe. Fresh florets are preferred, but if you don’t have access to fresh broccoli, simply replace it with the frozen ones.
Do I need to add sesame oil?
Don’t omit the sesame oil if possible because it enhances the flavor of this dish. In fact, I add it at the end instead of cooking it with the meat so that it retains its aroma and flavor.
So what are you waiting for? Make it soon. I can assure you this would become a family favorite! Serve with rice!

Easy and Tasty Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 lb chuck roast, sirloin steak, or flank steak,
sliced into thin strips and seasoned with freshly ground black pepper
- ½ cup soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional, but it enhances the flavor so add if you have it)
- ½ cup
brown sugar
- ¾ cup water
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp ginger,
freshly grated
- 3 large broccoli heads, cut into florets
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp water
- 2 tsp sesame oil
Instructions
- Select “saute” setting on the Instant Pot and heat oil. When the oil is ready, brown the meat in batches. I divide the meat into 3 batches. Transfer to a plate.
- As the beef cooks, mix together in a bowl in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar and water.
- Once the beef is done, add a little oil to the instant pot, if needed. Quickly saute the minced garlic and grated ginger until aromatic, about 1 minute. Add the soy sauce mixture and deglaze the pan so there are no stuck browned bits at the bottom. Turn off saute setting.
- Return the meat. Lock the lid in place. Make sure the valve is in sealing position. Adjust the setting to manual then cook at high pressure for 20 minutes.
- When the cooking time ends, do a quick pressure release. Set the valve to the venting position and when the valve drops, carefully remove the lid. Add the cornstarch diluted with water and stir everything until smooth. Turn on the "saute" setting again. Add the broccoli florets and cook for about 3 minutes or just until tender but not mushy. Add the sesame oil and give it a quick stir.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with a little salt, if needed. Serve immediately with rice.

Hi. This looks delish & will try it. For the broccoli, how much is needed in terms of weight? Thanks!

You can put a pound of broccoli if you like.
Dont have an insta pot so I’m guessing it’s easy enough to make on a stovetop

Just adjust it for the stovetop and do not overcook the meat. Enjoy.
Loved this! First instant pot “stir fry” type dish that has actually tasted better than ordering take out.
