No coffee maker or espresso machine is needed to make this tasty and deliciously strong Dalgona coffee that tastes like a super creamy latte but is so easily and quickly done, even by hand. Step-by-step photos are included as a guide.
If you have visited any social media site at all of late, then chances are you would have seen a certain type of coffee that’s been going viral (no pun intended!). You simply can’t miss it! It’s pretty much everywhere and many of my friends have made it and tried it. So, I finally gave in to social pressure (ha ha!) and tried it to see what the fuss is all about! Well, since it is coffee after all and, I am such a huge coffee fan so its presence everywhere on social media certainly piqued my interest – I had to make it!
Oh boy, I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is! It is pretty strong in taste, I must say. But, combined with the warmed milk (I prefer the milk to be just warmed and not cold or hot) and the sweetness from the sugar plus that uber creamy texture, it’s such a wonderful and delicious beverage! I’ve made this a few times already and both hubby and my teenage son love it! I definitely recommend this to any coffee lover!
If you are not familiar with Dalgona coffee, it is essentially whipped coffee. While it became hugely popular first in South Korea and was named after a type of Korean toffee (called dalgona), some say the origin is either Indian or Pakistani as they both have a similar type of whipped or beaten coffee.
It can either be served hot or cold. It is made by whipping equal proportions of instant coffee, sugar and hot water (1:1 ratio) until thick and creamy and then it is added as topping to either cold, warm or hot milk.
Check out the step but step photo to make this crazy easy but super yummy coffee!
First, simply combine equal amounts of instant coffee, sugar and hot water. If making a solo beverage, then a tablespoon each should suffice. I double this amount if I am making some for hubby and my son. I also used dark brown sugar which is why my coffee looked darker but feel free to use white sugar instead. I just prefer the taste of raw dark sugar, that’s why.
Then whip it up; whip it strong! I use a mixer for ease but it can certainly be done by hand. It will just take a bit longer.
Whip until it’s thick and creamy!
Then add the whipped coffee over cold, warm or hot milk. I like using warm milk so the foam stays afloat; using hot milk would dilute the foam and it would easily melt into the coffee, which is, of course, fine too! I just like drinking it with the whipped topping still fully intact. You can also sprinkle or dust the coffee with cocoa powder! Enjoy!!!

We used to make this back in the 50’s ,would sit forever with a cup and teaspoon untill it was white and thick then pour hot milk in slowly, so easy today with electric mixers.
