Here’s an easy GROUND BEED CURRY recipe (KEEMA BEEF CURRY) that needs no time-consuming preparation or even long slow cooking. This finishes in about 30 minutes and comes out so flavorful.
As you know, I am always trying new recipes, not only for my blog but so that my family doesn’t get tired of the same old ground beef recipes that I seem to recycle many times over.
I found this delicious Keema Beef Curry and thought I’ll give it a try and give it our own spin as usual. My dear hubby, who is a huge curry fan, loved it.
We had an unexpected guest last night too so I served this to him as well. He confessed he ate a few servings and totally enjoyed it, too.
Here’s an easy curry recipe that needs no time-consuming prep or even long slow cooking. This finishes in about 30 minutes and still comes out flavorful.
Let the spice measurement here serve as your guide, feel free to adjust it to your own or your family’s preference.
If you are able to pair this with Turmeric rice please do so as it’s the perfect side dish to this delicious curry! Here’s a recipe for Turmeric rice if you wish to make it.

What are the INGREDIENTS for Keema Beef Curry?

- Onion – finely chopped
- Garlic Cloves – peeled and crushed
- Fresh Ginger Root – peeled and grated (or maybe substituted with about 1 teaspoon ground ginger or to taste)
- Ground Turmeric
- Chili Powder – adjust to your desired heat or spice level.
- Ground Cumin
- Ground Coriander
- Garam Masala
- Ground Beef
- Plum or Roma Tomatoes – pureed or finely chopped.
- Beef Stock or Water
- Salt and Pepper – to taste
- Peas – use either fresh or frozen peas.
- Fresh Coriander/Cilantro – chopped, for garnish.
How do you make Keema Beef Curry?
Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Add the chopped onion and garlic and cook until the onions have softened. Adjust the heat to low and add all the spices including the fresh ginger (if using). Cook for 1-2 minutes or until aromatic.
Stir in the ground beef. Crumble with the fork to separate and cook until it changes its color.
Add the tomatoes, beef stock, or water, and then season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and then simmer on low covered for about 15-20 minutes.
Add the peas and cook until the peas are done. Adjust the seasoning if needed. So I know that this is not part of the original Keema curry recipe but when I feel I need to balance out the flavors of a dish, I sprinkle a little bit of brown sugar to do so. It will not sweeten the dish (that’s not the aim) but will help enhance the flavor. This is totally optional after all, you may already love the dish as is! 🙂
Garnish with some chopped Cilantro/Coriander. Enjoy with some yummy Turmeric Rice! What a perfect combo!

The tumeric rice recipe wasn't included & not in your recipes. Can you please post? . Thank you
I will try when I get the chance to post a new link today just for the Turmeric rice so it's not confusing. I will let you know. Thanks again.
Have updated the post and a separate recipe for Turmeric rice has been posted already. Thanks again.
This is exactly what I grew up with. It’s an East African Dish and Keema is ground meat. I couldn’t get a hold of my mom so I decided to search Pinterest for a recipe because I can’t always remember all the spices my mom uses. I found this one. I made it and it tastes just like my moms cooking. I loved it. Thank you!!
I made this tonight, followed the recipe exactly and it came out great! Definitely a keeper. I was initially concerned about the quantity of spices but went for it and want to say “don’t be intimidated!” It makes a wonderful tasting dish and it’s quite easy to make.
